To strengthen cyberspace safety and accountability, the Government of India is enhancing its digital regulatory systems. Minister of State for Electronics & IT, Shri Jitin Prasada, recently detailed key actions taken to counter threats like deepfakes and misinformation. The Information Technology Act, 2000, along with the IT Rules, 2021, governs online conduct, addressing crimes such as impersonation and privacy breaches, including those generated through AI. Platforms are required to remove unlawful content swiftly and appoint Grievance Officers. CERT-In plays a pivotal role in issuing AI-related cyber threat advisories and promoting digital awareness. Additionally, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre and a national portal empower users to report cybercrimes. These steps reflect India’s commitment to a secure, ethical, and responsible digital ecosystem.
