WARC, a leading authority on marketing effectiveness, has released its latest analysis of the 2026 Cannes Creative Effectiveness Lions winners. The report, titled Creative Effectiveness Lions – Insights from the 2026 Winners, examines the strategies behind campaigns that successfully combined cultural relevance, audience participation and platform-specific execution to generate sustained business impact.
WARC Content Lead John Bizzell said the winning campaigns demonstrate how creativity can tackle genuine business and social challenges while delivering measurable growth. Jury President Bertille Toledano, CEO of BETC and Havas Creative Middle East, highlighted the importance of real-world impact, noting that campaigns were assessed through the Creative Effectiveness Ladder, with emphasis on cultural vision and purpose.
The report identifies three major trends among this year’s successful campaigns.
1. Challenging Cultural Norms
Leading brands went beyond following cultural trends and used consumer insights to influence behaviour while strengthening brand relevance. Publicis France’s Three Words for AXA won the Creative Effectiveness Grand Prix by adding domestic violence protection to home insurance, including emergency relocation assistance. AlmapBBDO São Paulo’s Caramelo, which won Gold for Pedigree, broadened the brand’s meaning by celebrating Brazil’s mixed-breed dogs.
2. Turning Audiences into Participants
Successful campaigns transformed brand assets into interactive experiences that encouraged consumers to participate. Ogilvy Singapore’s Silver-winning Vaseline Verified collaborated with creators to address skincare misinformation online. IKEA’s Hidden Tags, developed by Uzina Lisbon, encouraged Portuguese shoppers to discover concealed production dates on products, helping strengthen consumer trust.
3. Using Creators and Platforms Naturally
The strongest campaigns treated creators as genuine participants rather than conventional paid promoters and made strategic use of platform-native features. Special US’s Silver-winning Football is for Food for Uber Eats linked its NFL sponsorship with real-time food-ordering moments during games.
Overall, the 2026 winners demonstrate that creative effectiveness increasingly depends on combining cultural insight, participation and authentic digital engagement to create lasting value.
