The Bombay High Court has denied interim relief to Culver Max Entertainment (Sony) in its ongoing dispute with Tata Play, prompting Sony to withdraw its writ petition. The petition challenged a TDSAT order restricting Sony from publicly commenting on Tata Play’s removal of 25 Sony channels from its base packs.
Sony had argued that the TDSAT order overreached its jurisdiction and violated constitutional rights. While the High Court allowed limited clarification on channel availability, it urged TDSAT to consider an early July 2025 hearing.
The conflict began after Sony issued a ₹128 crore disconnection notice to Tata Play, leading TDSAT to order a ₹40 crore interim payment while barring Sony from public communication on the issue. Sony contends this restriction hampers its ability to counter misinformation.
