The Walt Disney Company is set to lay off around 1,000 employees as part of a strategic overhaul of its marketing and corporate functions. The move marks the first significant workforce reduction under new CEO Josh D’Amaro, who assumed the role in March.
The layoffs are linked to “Project Imagine,” a restructuring initiative led by Asad Ayaz. The plan focuses on streamlining operations by consolidating marketing efforts across Disney’s film, television, streaming, and sports divisions into a unified structure.
Although notable, the cuts are smaller compared to those under former CEO Bob Iger, who oversaw the elimination of nearly 8,000 roles between 2023 and 2025. Affecting less than 1% of its workforce, the move reflects Disney’s ongoing efforts to improve efficiency and reduce duplication across its global operations.
