As Netflix celebrates a decade of operations in India, the streaming platform has revealed that its upcoming production, Operation Safed Sagar, has contributed more than US$24 million (over ₹215 crore) to the country's economy. Announced by Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos, the project is the company's largest and most ambitious Indian production to date, highlighting the broader economic benefits of large-scale entertainment ventures.
The production reflects what Netflix describes as "The Netflix Effect"—the positive economic impact created through employment generation, investments in local businesses, technological innovation, and talent development. During its 115-day filming schedule across 11 Indian cities, including Patiala, Chandigarh, Gwalior, and Bikaner, the project collaborated with over 850 local businesses, employed more than 200 cast and crew members, and created work opportunities for approximately 4,000 daily hires.
A wide range of sectors benefited from the production, including hospitality, transportation, catering, construction, set design, equipment rentals, visual effects, post-production, and other professional services. Netflix also partnered with 15 Indian visual effects studios, engaging nearly 1,200 artists to produce around 50 minutes of high-quality aerial sequences. These VFX collaborations alone generated over US$5 million (approximately ₹49 crore), representing nearly one-fifth of the project's overall economic contribution.
The series premiered in New Delhi on August 6, with the event attended by senior defence officials, military veterans, members of the armed forces, and the show's cast and creators. The gathering paid tribute to the courage and sacrifices of those who served during the Kargil War, celebrating their enduring legacy.
Marking its 10th anniversary in India in 2026, Netflix highlighted its continued commitment to Indian storytelling. Over the past decade, the platform has launched more than 200 Indian Original productions, helping local stories reach global audiences while supporting the growth of India's creative and entertainment economy.
