TRAI: Pay DTH active subscriber base reached 61.97 million by March 2024

The TRAI Annual Report 2023–24 highlights steady growth and change in India’s broadcasting and cable services sector. The media and entertainment (M&E) industry grew by 8.1% in 2023, reaching ?2.32 trillion, and is projected to touch ?3.08 trillion by 2026. Television, making up 30% of total M&E revenue, saw a slight dip to ?69,600 crore, while digital subscriptions surged 38%. TRAI issued key recommendations and conducted 820 audits to boost transparency and compliance. As of March 2024, India had 61.97 million pay DTH subscribers and 388 private FM radio stations. Community radio also grew, with 494 operational stations. Public broadcaster Prasar Bharati’s DD Free Dish remains vital for rural outreach, reaching an estimated 45 million homes.
